How do you tell if the glue is toxic? My package doesn't say

It is an organic matter so if you want to get really in depth it begins to rot the minute it is seperated from the root of the plant.

now the real question is, what would happen if you just bent the leaf from a living lettuce plant into your tank

It would still die! Depending on the size of the plant and amount of the leaf stuck in the water it could kill the entire plant. Plants that are not ment to be in marine conditions can not handle the amount of salt they would get. Also if you tried this you would notice that even if the plant did survive it would not regrow at a rate fast enough to keep up with wat the fish eat.
