I was wondering if anyone has any pictures of a female blue (powder) dwarf gourami. I have been trying to find one and see what they look like but everyone shows males at their websites.

Thanks,

Gin

the females look simular to the males, you have to look in the dorsal fin, gourami female have a rounded fin, I got mine that they said were males,

To distinguis males from fems look for fins: dorsal fin is elongated in males, rounded on fems. Also, same happens in anal fin. It's really easy to confuse males from fems in young specimens, so you need to wait until the fish is about 2 months old to be sure.

I always thought they were a grey color? Are they really the same color? So does that mean that the Petco/Petsmart carries females too? For some reason I always thought they were males. Is this the same with the red ones too?

If I take a pic of mine can someone tell? I think the fin is slightly different then my orange guy, but really I can't tell.
I'm just wondering because I know 2 males are not suppose to get along, but mine swim together alot and swim in sync round and round from the top of the tank to the bottom they are so funny.
Thanks,
Gin

here is a female neon blue. the neon blues, powder blues, and flame reds are all the same fish, just different color mutations.

and here is a male

now, note the much deeper belly on the female, the sharp line from the deep belly up to the tail fin. also the slightly duller colors

also notice the length and shape of the dorsal and anal fins. the males is long and ends in a point, while the females is much shorter and more rounded.

I have three male dwarfs and they get along just fine. The two powder blues are always trying to sneek into my flame's weed palace in his corner and he chases them out. they do like to square off and do the nose to tail circulation but they never do damage to eachother. It is HILARIOUS when they all swim close together and smack eachother with there feelers!

LOL! my wife calls it tail whipping. It's so funny! they seem so serious about pushing the other guy out of his space. I have a blue and flame and the flame likes to hang out in the anacharis and the blue just hangs out wherever he wants on his side of the tank.
It looks like a male from the pics, but I'm glad to hear that they get along so well. Mine hate each other but leave each other alone as long as they stay on there side of the tank.

Can anyone tell on mine, I flip back and forth between the picture on the tread here and the picture of mine and really I'm having a hard time (it may just be me), but to me the dorsal fin looks closer to the female because the male's starts out so skinny and mine starts out fat....but when I look at the anal fin I think it's more like the male, am I just being goofy here or does anyone else see it that way? I'm sure it's a male since they are so much more common but still it's driving me crazy!!
MoparORnoCAR: they are hilarious I agree.
