It seems as if my 2 female guppies look clear. They lack their colorful tails. What is causing this?

lets see. the lack of color could be caused by many things. water quality, new fish, being new themselves, being bullied, temperature, illness... basically it all comes down to stress. Anything new happen lately? How long have you had them? Lastly ( but not leastly) hows your water?

edit* is this an established tank?

Guppies

I find the best way to enhance my fishes color is to feed them a varied diet and i like to feed TetraColor Tropical Flakes Natural Color Enhancer every couple days. This is also on top of a good bacteria cycle and general health.

These 2 female guppies are very happy and swim around. They don't seem to be getting bullied. I've had them for 5 months. Nothing new happened in the tank, and the amonia and nirtrates can't be detected, but the pH is 6.5. Could that be the reason?

Also, the water temperature is at 74 degrees F.

6.5 is a little low but if it is your normal ph then the fish should be used to it. It is better to have a stable ph than a constantly fluctuating, near-perfect ph. I would raise the temp a bit up to the high 70's or no higher than 82. I dont think that would cause the color to fade either though. How long have they been faded?

I think it has been gradual. I didn't realize this until I went to the pet store.

My family has always had guppies and I've always observed the females either not having much color at all or losing some of it as they mature.

I'm curious about what you mean by it being gradual when you say you didn't notice it until you went to the petstore. What did you mean exactly?

It didn't hit me that the female guppies lost color. I think they lost a little bit every day, so I didn't notice anything. I recently went to the pet store and how how colorful thier female guppies were. That was when I realized that my female guppies may have lost color.
