I have a 55 gallon tank. I will be adding about 1 tbs of aquarium salt to each 10 gallons, so 5.5 tbs. I wanted to make this tank a strickt Figure 8 Pufferfish enviroment. How many can I keep in this size tank, and will they get along. I know these fish are agressive to other fish. Also I wish to know how much these fish cost.

Thanks,
Chaos

You don't want aquarium salt, you want to use marine mix.

In a 55 you could probably keep 5 Figure-8s if you have a visually complex environment - that is, broken sight lines so the fish are not always in view of one another.

Compatabilty is always iffy with puffers, you can never be sure, they have large individual differences in personality.

Well then I guess I need to get some driftwood and plants before I do this then, I only have a large center piece that is good for a few small fish to hide in. Also I dont suppose you know how much these puffers cost?

That is in no way enough salt to make your puffers comfortable. It probably won't even register on a hydrometer. F8 puffers need a SG (specific gravity, a measurement of salt content by a hydrometer) of around 1.005-10. (I keep mine at 1.008-10.) It takes a cupof salt/5gal of water to get a SG of around 1.005 You can start out with whatever your puffers are being kept at at the LFS (usually FW, 1.000) & raise it .002/week, untill desired SG is reached.

Then why are puffers labled as freshwater fish? That doesnt sound brackish to me, that sounds like salt. Wouldnt this harm my filter system? I thought you had to have a special filter for salt processing. Also how much does a salt testing tool cost?

Thanks,
CP

I suggfest reading the article RTR linked you to, before asking any more questions.

The hydrometer costs around $12, but for a 55g tank, the salt may get costly.
