Greetings-
I am starting my first freshwater tank since I was a kid- a 20gal. long with all-glass full hood, aquaclear150 and visi-therm deluxe heater. Can someone tell me, should I hang the heater to the right of the filter and a few inches away so the outgoing water gets pushed past it? Or should I place the heater on the opposite end of the tank?

thanks very much for your advice!

J.

You could put the heater near the filter output, but as long as you have good circulation in the tank it probably doesn't matter much.

:D

Since you said it was a hang-on filter, I second that it should be close to the filter output so the heated water gets carried by the current.

Personally, I prefer to use a submersible heater and place it near the bottom, mounted sideways across the back. I have a tall tank and that positioning has given me more even heating throughout the tank as the bottom water it getting heated and rising on its own, rather than being heated near the top and staying there.

Thanks mrgrudge,

actually this is a submersable filter, so maybe I'll go that way.
