Just picked up a used, but new looking 65GL tank to relocate my Angels that are in the 30GL.
Need to know what would be the best way to clean out the used tank(was a fw tank).
It came with a Penguin 330 filter hob, I think it is not enough, what would be good to add.
Also what media should I be using(coal in both).
Need help to set it up, and get it to function ASAP.
Thanks

Use distilled vinegar and water to clean it out. The vinegar breaks up any calcification from hard water. Activated carbon is used in aquariums not coal/charcoal. I would suggest an Aquaclear 110/500 available at PetSmart.com for the cheapest price I've seen lately. I use these exclusively. I have two of them on my 75, 90, and 110 gallon tanks with only the sponge. I don't bother with the other media as the sponges last forever. They can be rinsed out with tank water when you do a water change and put right back in without disturbing your biological filter. If I want chemical filtration, I add a chemi-pure right on top of the sponge. Rinse lightly and set on the sponge and you're done for 6 months.
