Filter for powerhead?

I just bought a powerhead to get more water movement in my tank. I've never used one without an undergravel filter. Do I need to use some type of filter with it?

probably should. I think mine came with an attachment for use with a sponge, but I don't know if all come with it. basically if you get a hunk of filter sponge and cut a hole in it for your PH intake and slip it over and hyold it on with a rubber band or something you should be good to go.

The main reason why you would not want to run your power head without a sponge is fish can and probably will get stuck on the intake and get hurt or killed. The benefit of the sponge is extra filtration.
