I've seen a few people mention these, and figured I would ask a few questions about them. I have 3 xp3 filstar canister filters running on two of my tanks, and I'm always looking for ways to cut down on maintenance. Do these things really reduce amount of required filter cleaning? Do they fit all canisters, or will I have to buy some sort of adapters? How about Aquaclear power filters? Do they work on these too? Regarding the sponge filters, how tasty are these things to large cichlids? Will I be replacing them all of the time?

Sorry for all of the questions. I'm just curious is all.

The FilterMax prefilters come with a variety of adapters, so I have no issues fitting them as prefilters to all of my canisters, but they are all Eheims. I have not had to replace any sponges, multiple years old.

I haven't had any problems with fish eating them. I have had a problem with a couple of the baskets (the part around which the foam sits) cracking, but since I've become aware of that and began handling them rather gently, I've not had a problem.

My sponges are about 2-3 years old and looking good.
