I have a number of filters and I would like to set them up with optimal Media.

I have on my 10 gallon a Whisper 10i and a Aquaclear 50.

Since I keep Brigs (Mystery Snails) in my tank I keep crushed coarl in one of the filters.

Right now I have crushed coral instead of activated charcoal in my whisper 10i's media bag. The problem is that the filter media plugs up very fast and even after rinsing it off very well in a bucket of tank water it ALWAYS clouds up and releases a bunch of junk back into the tank.

If I want to put a sponge in there instead, does the sponge need to tighly fit or would something like an AC50 spong be close enough (small gaps on the sides between sponge and whisper) If I do replace with a sponge would a course or fine sponge be better for this filter?

Second I would need to add crushed coral to the AC50, should I ditch the biomax and replace with crushed coral in a filter bag? Right now This filter has a bag of the biomax ceramic media on top followed by 2 fine filter sponges and a course spong on the inlet used as pre-filter to avoid fry from becoming fishmeal.

Finaly I have alot of Ceramic Media in my Fluval 204 Canister as well, do I really need it or would I be better off with sponges? I could for example Dedicate 1/4th of a basket only for the Ceramic biobedia instead of 1.5 baskets? I do have a sponge in 1/2 of one of the baskets, actualy 2 sponges next to each other but again not a perfect tight fit (although much closer than teh AC50 sponge in teh whisper 10i) Followed by 1/2 basket of crushed coral with 1/2 basket of purigen (250 ml of it!). The other 1.5 baskets are ceramiq media.

-Ceramic media looks like it houses bacteria well and will generaly not plug up.

-sponges will house bacteria and filter out waste but need to be checked on and rinsed often.

Do I have this right?

Any Advice is appreciated.

No has tried a sponge in a whisper 10i?

What about a sponge in an eclipse setup that uses the bio wheel?
