filter suggestion for 30 gal hex

Either a Marineland Penguin BIO-Wheel 200 or Hagen AquaClear 70 would do very nicely. Both of these are HOB (hang on the back) power filters, so if you want something more discreet but a bit more expensive, canister filters are the way to go like API's FilStar XP1. Which ever of these, they are all excellent choices. Any idea what you plan to stock the tank with?

If you can swing the money, eheim makes a wonderful canister filter. I think the eheim classic 2213 would do nicely in this tank. It will filter more than 30 gallons but I believe in overfilteration anyways. This filter is excellent in its filteration capacity and is super silent. I think you will be happy with it.

thanks all

i'll probably go with the marineland/biowheel. i kinda like the wheels. i already have an emperor 400 for my 52 gal. thinking about stocking black lryetail mollies. also, i don't need heaters in my tanks, i live in south florida so the tank water temps are all most always around 77-78.

An Emperor 280 would be perfect for this tank.

Not true. Even if your tanks are almost always 77-78, it isn't always 77-78 and all it takes is one quick and/or large change in temp to wind you up with ill, possibly dead fish. And, anyway, it's not like heaters are expensive - one sized for your tank go for less than $20 at wal-mart.
