Filters..

So as you can see I have a 70gallon tank.... but, I only have a AquaClear 70 on it... and I havn't had any problems... but before I add anymore fish I'd like to get more filtration in my tank....

I was thinking of something that I can use under water unlike the aqauclear (also dont want a underground filter!)

What does everyone recommend, and for how many gallons...thanks!

I'd throw another AC filter on there,preferably a 110.

Use a Canaster

I'd recommend a canister filter they are very low mantanance work amazing filteration sysem

I have a eheim wet/dry canister on my 75 gallon tank and I love it. The filter is over 10 years old and still runs and keeps my water looking great!

Canisters are great ideas on larger tanks. But another option would be to leave the current filter and add a powerhead with a prefilter on it. That will increase water movement which is very important in a larger tank.

Well, I do plan on still keeping the aquaclear 70 on the tank.... but I figured more filtration might be needed for my 70gallon... or is it good enough? I dont want to spend an extra $100 on yet another big filter...

Maybe I'll just get another aquaclear.... but should it also be a 70? so I'd have two 70's on my tank........ or is that too much..... maybe just get a 30 or 40?

as you can see I have:

-3 dwarf gourami
-3 honey gourami
-6 peppered cories
-22 neon tetras
-pleco

but I'm wanting to add:
-1or2 angelfish
-2 peppered cories
and MAYBE
-4 platies

A second aquaclear of any size on the other end of the tank would be a good idea (to get rid of dead spots). A sponge filter "hydro-sponge" hooked up to an airpump or power head would work as well. IMO canister filters only real advantage is filtration without surface agitation (for planted tanks), and that they are quite and compact. HOB's are WAY better filters for the money, and sponge filters are even more economical (but a little more unsightly).

The powerhead with a sponge on the intake would accomplish the same thing as a sponge filter, but another aquaclear on the otherside would be perfectly fine. Plus if one stopped working you wouldn;t be in trouble. Another 70 won't add too much current, the fish will adapt easily. But a smaller one will work well also.
