I will soon be upgrading my 55 gall to a 125. I have never had this large of a tank and have only ever used whisper hang-on-the-back style filters. What type of filtration is best? What brand is best?

I only have a 55 but I have enough filtration for a 125. I use one hang-on-back biowheel style that's rated for a 75 and I recently added a Marineland Magnum 350 canister filter. It sits under my tank in the stand, is super quiet, and makes the water so crystal clear. It only took about a half hour to get it set up and running.

A 125? Add at least two large canisters or one and a 40 gal sump.

The typically published break over volume from cannister to wet/dry is 100 gallons.

As previously indicated 40 gallons should be the minimum volume of the sump.

Many prefabricated sumps (including mine) do not provide sufficient volume for the induction of mechanical media.
