The way I read this the 55 gallon tank is not setup yet. Is there any way you can get the 300 soon? If the filter that you are getting from your friend is currently being used I would get that "cycled" filter and put it on your tank or just the bio-wheel (if compatible) and slap it in your 330, if the 330 is new "uncycled". I'm not familiar with penguin filters. This would provide you with a benifical bacterial colony instantly as long as the filter media/bio wheel is kept wet during transfer. This would allow you to stock some if not all your fish in your tank with less chance of a spike.
