Two of my cardinal tetras I think have got fin rot half there fins are missing and they've gotten skinny. What do i need to do to treat it and will my other fish catch this disease. Thanks.

what other fish are they with? how long have they been in the tank? how long has the tank been setup? what is the temp? it should be about 82F. if it isnt that high, get it there and start with fin rot medications if you havent already. it shouldnt bother the other fish unless they are stressed for some reason and/or have physical damage to their bodies or fins. what are you trying to feed the cardinals? are they eating?

temp 79F
ammonia 0
nitrite 0
nitrate 20

they've been in the tank for one year and there eating but one is skinny but i see his eating. the cardinals are with
3 platys
7 cardinal tetras
6 glo light tetras
5 bronze corys
3 albino corys
1 chinese algae eater
4 clown loaches
8 ottos
1 rainbow shark
4 flying fox
8 cherry barbs
2 rosy barbs
2 dwarf gouramis
1 clown pleco
8 zebra danios
6 leman tetras
2 bristlenose
12 cardinal tetras

there all in a 400 litre tank which is around 100 gallons i think.
All my other fish are doing fine except for 2 cardinals which have gotten fin rot and one is skinny. what could have caused it.

this is a tough one. although they have been in your tank for a year, since cardinal tetras are wild caught, it may have been some sort of internal parasite or other type of infection or disease that remained dormant until the fish were stressed in some way. this could be anything from a change in chemistry that is now unnoticed, (what is the pH and hardness). or since some of those other fish are pretty active and could be nippy they may have chased the cardinals which stressed them which allowed a pathogen to get a foothold in them. out of all of those fish the cardinals are the most sensitive so it would make since that if anyone got sick it would be them. do you have a hospital/quarantine tank? if so you may want to take on the challenge of netting out all the sick cardinals and treating with a variety of meds for different illnesses. cardinals like their water pretty acidic (6.0-6.5) and fairly soft. either of those being off could affect the cardinals first and leave the rest perfectly fine. if you dont have the tests kits for everything you can either buy them or have your LFS test for what you cant.

I took them out of my tank with great diffuclty i couldn,t catch them lol eventually i caught them and i put them in a hospital tank. I bought something called MELLAFIX i'm gonna give it a go and see how i do.

forgot one thing will MELLAFIX kill my good bacteria

no malafix will not kill your bacteria. it's one of the few "natural" remedies.

actually out of all the smells in the pet industry (especially after working in pet stores) melafix smells good, and i know im not the only one. anyways, try something stronger than melafix, it is not the strongest med out there and you need to kick this in the butt for such a relatively sensitive fish. check the maracyn/maracyn 2 type meds and get which ever one treats fungus.
