FINALLY: Little Man (foal)pix--"Stilts"

Thats great to hear he is doing better :)! The more he drinks the stronger he will get. He has a rough little life. I have found though like with D'Artagnan, that the harder their start the more they cherish the bond with their human counterparts the rest of their life. D'Artagnan took after his mom and if there is a human in the pasture he will come over and stand with them rather than playing with his buddy, eating, etc. Such love bugs :). I too wish I could afford a Friesian! My mom is NOT a horse person at all, mine intimidate her quite a bit cause she doesn't like horses and they are massive, and she always asks when I will be getting a Friesian, I always reply when I have money unless she wants to help, that generally ends the conversation :)! Happy Easter to you too and hope the little guy keeps getting stronger and stronger! Thanks for the comments on the kids :), I really like that color TWH. It is very unusual looking :)! Hope all is well!

What a fighter you got there! Gorgeous little man and I will keep my fingers and toes crossed for him. Stunning family.

Could you explain for us non horse people what a "Dummy Foal" is?? I've heard this mentioned several times and can't quite figure it out.

Dummy foal is an extremely broad definition and can mean anything abnormal causing the foal not to act like a foal. It is most commonly associated with "red bag babies" which is where the placenta detatches early from the uterus causing the placenta to come first rather than the amnion and there is a lack of oxygen to the brain causing "dummyness". Dummy foal common symptoms are inability to stand, inability to nurse, falling into walls, no suckling reflex, can't stand on own power, etc. Is hard to describe as is a broadly used term but these are what it is commonly referred to as.
Dangerdoll- Thanks, he was the tallest baby CSU has seen, and he stands ~16-16.1 hands at 21 months old! He is going to be huge like his daddy!

It's good to see him up and walking with his mama. Keep telling him that we're all rooting for him, Renee!

Glad things are going well for you and Little Man, Rosita....still have the fingers crossed!!!

Thanks, guys, I appreciate the continued support. Still wobbly, but strength is coming. Little Man AC--hmmmmm, "Ace" for short. It could work!
LOL

Mono, that was a GREAT explanation of "dummy foal," covers the major results. I think also too thick a placenta as a result of the d****** fescue
mold from Mom can cause it, as with my filly from 9 years ago---old dude who owned the barn and I'd bought the mare from told me, "Aw, she'll be
fine, fescue doesn't really bother them." Even tho' I'd read alot of material on it, for some stoopid I believed the "man"--never do that again!!
And D'Artagnan is HUGE already ( can't get over 16h at 21 months)--he'll at LEAST be as big as his gorgeous daddy was!

Well, off to go rub down--we just had a spot of rain and I don't want him to catch a chill. Thanks again, ya'll!!!!! YOU ROCK!!!! ~Renee

I know this thread is really old, but im interested to see if you have any updates
