How can I improve filtration of fine particles in my water ?

I have just ordered a fluval 4 plus, and I think this will be a better filter than of the internal filters I'm currently running (which is driving me nuts with noise...). My other filter (on a 180L tank) is the Juwel internal that came with.

Another question;

Before I put my tufa rock in, I rinsed it off pretty thoroughly...however, I still see some particles come off when I move them. Am I right in saying that improving my filtration will remedy this (as in whatver is floating around will be filtered out)? Or should I take out the rocks and scrub 'em (which to me seems likely not to do much good - if they 'flake' [wrong word but you get what I mean], they flake)

floss works pretty well, but sometimes some of the smaller stuff still can get thru.... if this happens and it bothers you, fluval now makes a water polishing pad that you can stick in your filter temporarily that's supposed to really polish the water...I haven't used it so I can't say how well it works.

One layer of old T-shirt works amazingly well. I use it when I first put in sand substrate. It gets all the tiny stuff out but you have to clean it very often as it gets clogged very fast. Good for very fine particles. If you are using a HOB filter, just wrap a piece around the filter cartridge and it is easy to rinse out often.

Agreed. I am running my Magnum with the micron filter, floss, and some biomedia from aquaclear. My water has never looked better....
