so, when i get to finally go to the fish store this weekend to finally get my first fishies, what should i get first? does it matter what order i add them in, or should i just get whichever ones i want most, first?

6 harlequin rasboras
2 red flame dwarf gourami
3 kuhli loaches
handful of amano shrimp

(the LFS has all of these except the amanos. those i'll be buying here, most likely.)

Get the Harlies first. They are pretty hardy and will give you instant gratification as they settle into their new home.

did you fishless cycle? or are you cycling with fish?

Don't add too many at once, you don't want to overdue the bioload. I would add the rasboras first. Be careful with the flame gouramis as they can get aggressive towards eachother sometimes, especially if they're both males or one is bigger than the other.

I agree with the above statement regarding Amano shrimp, put those in last. I would get the 6 rasboras first, wait a few weeks then get the gourami.

that's what i was looking for. :)

i'm hoping for a breeding pair of gourami.

(and my cycle is just completed, pony. fishless.)

add the rasboras first then the loaches and the gouramis last so that if their is aggression to the other fish it should be minimized

If you've done a fishless cycle you should put all or most of the stock in at once. That's the point of building up enough bacteria to handle 5ppm of ammonia in 24 hours.

I did not know that. I've learned something new today :werd:
