Hello all,
I have a 7000 gallon pond in my backyard that I started last year, and a 250 gallon raised pond I started about two weeks ago.
Here is the problem, I live in Boise Idaho spring for all practical purposes is here, its been over 60 for about 2 weeks and the forsynthia is going nuts. My mother in law for my birthday bid, and won a koi for our pond. Sadly this will be our first koi- its a 5" Tancho Gin Matsuba. The water in the morning is from 50ish or above. I know that is probably too cold to put the new lil guy into. so should i...

Set up a 55 gallon tank in the garage with a heater and keep it at what temp?(I could probably get a cultured bio filter from another tank) until the water gets a little warmer outside?

Should I put this little heater (500 watts) in the 250 raised pond and keep it as warm as possible and put him in there and add some of the biological filtration from the other pond?

Or should I just put him in the big pond and cross my fingers...

I know this probably isnt the best idea but its pretty much all the options I have right now.
Thanks,
Tren

Couldn't you try to introduce the koi to the big pond when it warms up during the day? Find a day when it gets nice, and add him them. The thing to watch is if this koi has been fed all along. They can't be thrown into a pond with no food if he has been used to eating.

thanks for the reply,
i think that is what i might do, it is to be warm this week so...
thanks,
