Being new and everything this is my first time treating ich. i have been using quickcure and have been treating it for 3 days, and it says it should be cured by then, but i was wondering how i tell if it has been cured. Some of my fish still have white dots on them. How do i tell when it's safe to stop treating them.

I recommend not using quickcure, I use Rid-Ich and Pimafix, which are 2 of the best meds for treating ich. You need to take the carbon media out of the filter, keep the filter running without the activated carbon, turn the heater up to 82* this will speed up the ich lifecycle, and add aquarium salt 1 tblspn per 5-10 gallons of water, the salt helps the fish deal with stress and ich dont like salt much. 3 days is to short of time to kill off the ich parasite, it normally takes 1-2 weeks to fully get rid of the ich parasite.

i have done everything that you have said in the post, my water is currently 81 degrees have the filter running without carbon, and i already have 1 tblspoon per 5 gallons. will the ich spots be gone off the fish when it is cured?

Hmm, no. When the ich spots are no longer on the fish is when you start killing the ich. (you can only kill it when it is free swimming) My advise is to leave the salt in and the heat up for at least two weeks. Do vacuums every day (or every other day) and make sure to bring enough salt back into the tank with the water change. After two weeks, slowly take the salt out (taking a long week to do so).

It is really worthwhile your time to read up on ich, there is loads of useful information available.

I personally have had so much more luck with salt/heat than with any medication that I would always advise that...
