As a scuba diver I can attest that no human could every create a sound, without some sort of special aid, underwater load enough to kill a fish.

Tapping on the tank is just annoying to fish but even then it seems to be the only way I can get my betta's attention.

ahh. Try clapping in the opposite direction. Seperate your hands while cupped very fast. In well aerated water (ie a swimming pool) you can force the gasses out of solution for a split second. If your really stong you can cause the water molecules to momentarily act like a solid and crack. One of these two affects is called cavitation. I don't know. I've heard so many conflicting definitions.

Ok its still not enough to kill anything underwater but makes some wierd noises. Also can bruise up your hands aweful bad if you not careful.

I had this "gun" contraption i built when i was like 10 that created a sound wave you could feel about 6 ft away underwater. You had to get yourself pinned in good or it would push you instead of making the wave. dang neuton and his laws It probably had the force to kill/stun a small fish at short range.

Please dont ask how i made it. That long time ago. it had a pvc pipe a rubber diaphram of some sort and I THINK a toilet plunger (Clean of course) to charge it . Maybe i reinvent it next time I have a pool(or land to put it on).

another edit. I find all that is neccessary to get fishes attention is scrape your fingernail slightly on the glass not hard enough to squeek. Just enough so you can feel the imperfections in the glass through your finger. maybe slightly tap it. not even enough to hear it in nail .. Probabaly sounds like a loud yell in water.
