do all fish go dull looking at night time? because ive noticed that when i turn my light on in the mornin most of my fish's colours are duller, less vivid. or could this be because of a lack of oxygen with out the plants photosynthesising?

Most rainbowfish do not go dull and they are not nocturnal (except blue-eyes, I believe) . In fact, they are at their brightest in the very early morning when the sun (tank light) comes on. That's when they exhibit their breeding colors and spawning behavior.

Gorgeous sight first thing in the morning, lemme tell yah. If I remember I'll try to get my camera set up at 4am and take some shots.

They pale out during the day a little, but still display their colors off and on.

I see that behaviour in my gouramies and angels. If I forget top turn on the lights when I leave the house in the morning, when I come home at 7 pm i see them almost white, specially the peral gouramies. Also, the I have 4 blue gouramies that change from pale blue to navy blue in a matter of hours. It's like having multiple fishes in one specimen.
