I am getting a large tank very soon... I believe a 55 or 65 gallon tank. Well i wondering if I add a filter from an established tank and maybe after a few days add some male guppies to speed it up... MY question is "will that work?"

it will if you keep up on water changes. I fishy cycled my 29 and was doing a 50% change every other day. if you plan to fishy cycle you need to be testing for ammonia nitrite and nitrate every day.

fishy cycling is a lot of work, and from my experience I would suggest trying to do a fishless cycle as it's not quite as much work and you don't accidentally kill any fish in the process :)

if you wait a 'few days' before adding some guppies (or any fish), the established filter you've put in the tank will die off due to lack of any ammonia source. add the guppies immediately with the established filter.

another option is 'fishless cycling'.
