I have another question. I have decided to give the gourami and tetra back because the tetra is sick:( What kind of the same species of fish, like a school of fish, would be good for a 5 gallon tank. I live in a dorm and have no room for a bigger tank. I would like these fish to be colorful. NO BETTAS!!!!

I did a similar thread...
Endler's livebearers
Spotted Blue eye rainbows
least killiefish
Were what I came up with.....not that I'm having any luck finding locally.

My first vote would've been fancy guppies. Since you mentioned schooling fish, second vote would be white cloud minnows.

If you have a lightly planted tank along with a heater, 2-3 neons would be nice.

Only thing is neons are not easy to keep to begin with. They're easily stressed out from shipping, inbred enough that they're susceptible to bacteria or fungus infection. Unless the neons have been in the fish store for at least 3-4 weeks, chances of living in your fish tank is not good.

you will be happy with 1 male guppie and 2 female guppies...

Not really a school at first but once they have babys its gonna be fun watching abunch of lil guppies swim around.

Get the endlers livebearers....they stay fairly small and the males are VERY colorful. Make it a nicely planted tank with a small piece of malaysian driftwood....add one of those little "in tank" powerfilter things (I've seen these at an LFS near me...wish I could remember who makes them, but they are for 1 1/2-5 gallon tanks) They are similar to those "in tank" fluval filters....but fluval doesn't make them this small I don't think.

Also, I have seen small striplights at PetSmart for those size tanks for only 11$. If you put a screw in 10watt flourescent bulb (walmart for about 6$) you'd have 10watts of light.....buy 2 of those striplights and a glass top and you could have 20watts of light. Dose with flourish excel (for such a small tank it would be very cost effective) everyday and viola !

Sounds easy doesn't it ! LOL !!!

Anyway....you'll have a nice little current in there with that little filter and some nicely swaying live plants and brightly colored little fishies swimming happily in their new home... :D

Or something like that....lol....either way, have fun deciding !
