What kind of fish should I try keeping if I haven't had fish in years long enough that I feel new to this. I also don't want goldfish.

I saw you other post. Do you have a 20g long (30 x 12 x12) or a standard 24 x 15 x ? That can make a difference in what fish you can easily stock. I'm glad you don't want GF, your tank is too small.

I like small bottom fish like any of the dwarf corydoras (so cute!) & smaller rasboras OR smaller tetras. What fish are you interested in? We can help you decide, give us an idea on what fish you like.

I wanted something colorful. I was thinking tetra and corydoras. But maybe there are other combinations that work well together

If you have a lid, try killifish. If you don't, don't.

I prefer no lids, but try to keep species that won't jump.. or I won't miss if they do .

Look into killifish..!

Okay, they are beautiful. I'ma going to ask if my little pet store can order me some.
Will they do okay with a tank at 78°F?
And can they be paired up with corydoras?

Well, I'm going to disagree with dougall, lol.

Killies are IME are not a starter fish. Yep, they may jump, but they also might, or at least try, to eat any other fish that may fit in their mouths...surprisingly big mouths!

I only tried a gardnerii pair once as an impulse auction buy, but I was sorry I did. I should have researched them more!
