Here are some pictures of my gourami. Shes sick and I cant figure out whats wrong with her! On the top front of her body the scales have turned white and look like they are falling off. She sits on the bottom of the tank but other then that and the scales she looks fine. Here are some pictures of what she looks like, sorry they are kinda blurry. Hopefully they will give you and idea of what im talking about. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

oh and Im not sure what kind of gourami she is, so if you can help identify her that would be great!

first...

how big is the tank?
what are your perameters? (pH, Ammonia, nitrite, nitrate)
what is the temp?
how often do you do water changes?

I Cannot really tell much from the pictures but i can reccomend to add a tblspn of aquarium salt for every 5gal you have in your tank, to help speed this fish's recovery. Another thing you can do is turn the heater up a few degress, just one or two, which also helps the fish's immune system to speed up recovery.

There is a product sold at most LFS and Wal-Mart called quick cure which is a general remedy formula which is used to heal various diseases in fish. I reccomend this product as it has worked for me in the past.

Large scale water changes over 50% also can help the fish if you water is not in tip top shape.

ok the fish is in a hospital tank by herself. Its a five gallon tank that has been set up for about 2months now(I keep a couple small fish in it when its not being used to keep it cycled). I change the water at least a week but I try to do more then that because its such a small tank.

Water temp. 74
pH - 7.2
Ammonia - 0
NitITE- 0
NitrATE- 10

Hope this helps!

ok, your perameters look good, i'd say just turn up the temp SLOWLY until its about 80, like a degree or two a day, and add salt. thats about the best you can do.

Looks to be a gold gourami, I think it's scale Rot, I would reccomend the salt, and add a heater, gourami are touchy when it comes to that

It looks like a bacterial infection to me, maybe columnaris. I would use a broad spectrum antibacterial. Take your filter material out and put it in a bucket with a blower to keep it alive(antibacterial will kill benficial bacteria). Then treat the tank and put a blower in the tank as well to keep the oxygen supply up.

I would not reccomend it Either Aquarium or canning salt.

Just a thought

I have seen gouramis swim into places they really have no business trying to and getting stuck. One time a friend had one of those cheapo plastic caves and I saw the gourami try to swim through it and it got stuck, then nearly scaled itself spooking once it realized it was jammed.

Do you have any ornaments the gourami could get trapped in? If the scales are fine on most of the fish, but missing from one part of the fish this is a definite possibility. Not to worry, if this is the case the fish will grow the scales back fairly quickly... but I would remove any potential "gourami hazards" and eliminate this scenario.

Hope things work out.
