I would not reccomend it Either Aquarium or canning salt.
There's a thread in the New Forum on the salt myth. You might want to read it.

Table salt is fine, but you need to get your hands on an anti-bacterial as ashdavid suggested. IMHO I prefer them in "pure" forms rather than buying something with a fancy name and other additives. Many LFS sell tetracycline and other anti-bacterials in tabs and liquids.

I have always had luck with canning salt and it's easy to come by in our house as my mother likes to make pickles, but use whatever works best with you

but I would remove any potential "gourami hazards" and eliminate this scenario.

Hehe-
"My tank is Gourami Safe!"

I can see the lawsuits coming, and then a whole line of "Gourami Safe" aquarium decorations. And for Gouramis that do get stuck, we can equip them with backup beepers so no other fist get run down-

"Beep!------Beep!-----Beep!"

"Hey- yeah YOU with the big wide dang body! Do NOT try to go through that stupid little house like the Neons are doing!"

nope, she was never gasping for air. She's in the hospital tank now and shes much more active today. Her scales still look funny but I added some salt and I am going to the store for some medication tonight. I dont think it was caused by any of my decorations. All I have are plants and driftwood in my main and the funny looking scales developed after I moved her into the hospital tank for her unusual behavior.

Update

Hey everyone! Sorry its been awhile but I just wanted to let you all know that my gourami is doing great! She looks and acts completely normal. The tetracycline really helped alot! Thanks for all the advice and support! :)

I am glad the fish is fine.

Is this (tetracycline) not an acne medicine?
