I have my 75 gallon and I researched how to get piranhas... You need a import/export license and you need to tell the fish and wildlife people...etc...

It costs 50 bucks but does anyone else have one? Has anyone had to tell the gov't about their fish?

Are there any specific guidelines regarding who they will actually issue a license to? They may very well not issue them to private individuals to keep Piranha in their homes. You might want to look deeper into this. Easy thing to check first is to see whether the statute regarding the issuing of the permit says "may issue" or "shall issue". "Shall issue" means you pay your $50 and get your fish. "May issue" means maybe, or maybe not. Bet you a buck it says "may issue"!

At your age it is not likely that you would be issued a license. There is often an age limit and condition limit on the issuance....such as a recognized school or business or for educational purposes. Go ahead and try, just be aware you may not get it.

Just my 2 cents but they're boring fish anyways and not always the easiest to keep.

Ok, I guess I will be getting a lionfish in my 75 gallon....

BTW I would probably have my dad own the license, he is a lot older than me...but I guess I wont try to get one.

As has been said piranha's are pretty boring and shy fish that hide most of the time, nothing like they're made out to be in movies or on tv. I've had my arms in a golden pirahna tank before and they all just hide, and they're suppose to be one of the more aggressive species. The only excitement is feeding them and that gets old quick.

And as stated they probably wont give it to a private person at all even though your dad meets age req

I had them breed for me a couple of times. Seeing a Tetra guard its nest like a Cichlid was pretty exciting!

Didn't get to see that, they weren't mind was fishsitting for someone who had them and another species black something I think. Wasn't sure how they'd react to me cleaning their tank but they stayed far away, more likely to be mauled by nemo then a piranha.
