found this list for suitable tank mates for a small peaceful community tank
basically i hope to base my tank around some neon tetras maybe 10

but dont want to make any compatibility mistakes
other than the painted glass fish(how cruel is that)as if fish are not cool enough without needing to handpaint them which i dont want due to feeling of supporting cruelty (any other cruelty fish on the list)

is there anything on the list that shouldnt be there not that i want them all but when i get my biospira i will be going shopping for all fish if it works so want options for if my favoured fish are not in stock although other than the neons i am not too fussed as long as they survive.

Small Peaceful Tetras: Neon Tetra, Black Neon Tetra, Black Phantom Tetra, Bleeding HeartTetra, Cardinal Tetra, Diamond Tetra, Emperor Tetra, Flame Tetra, Glass Tetra, Glowlite Tetra,** Gold Tetra, Head & Tail Lite Tetra, Lemon Tetra, Pristella Tetra, Red Eye Tetra, Red Phantom Tetra, Ruby Tetra , Rummynose Tetra** (Note: Black Tetras* and Bloodfin Tetras may be too active for this tank.)

Small Peaceful Gouramis: Chocolate, Dwarf, Honey, Red Fire, Small Pearl Gouramis

Livebearers: Guppies, Variatus, Moons

Rasboras: Harlequin Rasbora, Red Lined Rasbora

Pencilfish: Diptail, Dwarf, Three-Lined

Nice list

Try to get at least 6 of a kind for the tetras when there in a group there colors shine more. When theres only one or two they have a harder time and tend to have duller colors. The harliquen rasbora i think is the hardiest tetra next would be glowlight and black neons next would be cardinals and finally neons these are the only tetra ive had and thats what ive noticed... If you go with a clown loach theyll eat snails and dont grow very fast mine grow about 1 inch every 18 months so you could get 2 and they max out around 6-7 inches. Usually fish are much happier with a pair rather than one at least when size isnt an issue...

If you're stocking a small, peaceful tank - I'd take clown loaches (they grow up to 12" and need to be kept in groups) and pearl gouramis (get up to 4" long and are territorial) off the list. Other than that, the list seems pretty good :)

yes i dont have room for a bigger tank till i get a bigger house
i had to refurnish front room to get one in :dance
that was not a problem
i guess i could evict a child and use their room for a bigger tank
i know :idea2: i will tell them after six months the biggest pain goes
and then i can fit a 6'6" tank where thier bed was
if nothing else that should introduce some healthy competition

so small fish i think will make for a more interesting and maintainable tank

i may settle on one big school of neons as the centrepiece and work round them

how will a few small schools of other tetras fit in with this

What size is the tank? (sorry if you've already mentioned.. I couldn't fine it :) )

which fish on above list are bottom feeders other than kuhli loach

also are top dwellers really beneficial as it is a 40 ish gallon long only 15" high and i found with my neons that they were all over the place
