Does anyone know of a glue that I could use to fix some tabs on my plastic aquarium lid? It has to be fish safe/non-toxic in case some water splashes up on it from inside the tank, or if the tabs broke again and fell into the tank, they wouldn't leech out any harmful chemicals that would kill the fish. I tried using some basic aquarium safe silicone sealant, but that isn't really strong enough and doesn't bond that well to the plastic lid. I need something almost like a superglue or a strong epoxy glue that would be safe for the fish. The area I am glueing isn't actually in the water, so I might be able to use a different glue, but I don't want to take any chances. Anyone know of any good glues that will work on plastic and still be fish safe? The tabs I am glueing are part of the hinge for the lid, so it would have to be really strong to work.

2 part epoxy is safe once it cures. Many folks use it for projects that don't involve glass to glass joints. There are others, I think Super glue is safe as well, but Would wait for a second opinion on that one.

I have used super glue to repair a few of my decorations on numerous times with no ill effects on the fish... But the super glue does have a shorter life under water, it seems like I have to reglue te items once a year.

I just went to my local hardware store (probably could find it at an LFS for a bit more), and in the aisle with silicon they had a tube that said "for fish tanks/fish safe". It was only 4 or 5 dollars, and unless you are sure of what you are getting I would get something like that. I asked this question before and was told 100% silicon was ok, but all the tubes I saw were questionable as to other ingredients.

The issue with silicone in this particular instance is that it doesn't bond well to plastic. Silicone is great for glass items though.

I went to TAPS plastic and got some isp weld on, it is the glue they use on acrylic. I have heard other people have used it to repair their tanks and have had no problems. if there isnt a TAPS plastic near u, go to their website.

Do you have an address for that web site?

The tap stuff only works on acrylic and not all plastic... So if you are repairing the tank then it will work it you are repairing a plastic trim on the tank it will not work...
