I've been thinking a bit about snail control lately, and wonder if there's something small that likes to eat snail eggs, but won't compete with, or bother the algae eaters in the tank. I don't mind a few snails, but would love to curb their breeding. I've been considering an assasin, but would like to be able to keep some nerites without worrying.

How about this. Put a piece of semi-cooked zuchini in the tank on top of a plate. (Use a marble to weigh it down) The next morning you should see TONS of them on it, just scoop them out and dispose of them. I also agree with jim1212 about squishing them, just use a pair of tweezers or a popsicle stick bacause the shells can cut your fingers when they shatter. Many loaches eat snails but not the eggs so they might also eat your nerites.

I've watched dwarf puffers eat ramshorn snail eggs but you know how hard it is to mix them with other fish. When I kept dwarf puffers I'd pull plants out of snail infested tanks and put them in the puffer tank for a couple days to let them eat the eggs.

Puffers or Loaches will eat snails. Not sure of any others.
