fish that shoudn't be sold

A pacu?

We have a Pacu in a 175 gallon tank. We got him when he was about 3 inches. He’s a much happier fish now that were feeding him live fish from time to time. Should people go out and get them, HELL no. We have had him for 5 years and is about 18 inches long, 5 inches high and about 3 inches thick. He’s to big to tack to a LFS and trying to transport a fish that size to a larger Aquarium in DC would be to hard. He has about 10 more years left in him.

Now if you look at it that way there’s no way I would ever get one for my tank.

Thanks, I was trying to remember the dimensions but it just wasn't working. I knew they did not have a lot of room.

i think they can sell whatever they want as long as the fish will be taken care of and is housed properly. if you look online theres guys out there with 20,000 tanks and some people with their whole backyards dug out to recreate lifelike ecosystems for their fish.

theres also bans on taking endangered fish. i dont mean to just sell them at the petstore so someone can have a rare or unusual fish but hobbiest have saved some species too. taken by the right people they can be bred and rereleased to help the wild population.

i myself want to own an arapaima which wont happen anytime soon but maybe if i can afford to get an indoor pond big enough for one.

I finally found a place that would take my ID Shark off my hands. He was 5"-6" long. The store had someone that was in the market for an ID that size. Otherwise they would not have taken him in and I most likely would have had to euthanize him.

i dont know anyone with a tank that big, biggest is around 2,000 but i know people with huge indoor ponds. and a lot of people has converted swimming pools or used those big trashdumpsters with pondliner. my aunts pond is the best, i just havent been to thailand in about 10 years to get pictures of it. its probably atleast a 75 foot square because the house is built on top of the pond in stilts. huge fish and turtles in that thing. heres the biggest thing i currently have pictures of. i think its 10x13 meters i forget how deep.
