Fish without a heater - can they live temporarily?

So my bolivian ram is being beat up and harrassed every minute of her life by my young german blue ram. The GBR is very colorful but the Bolivian who has been his tank for almost 1 week has already lost some of her bottom fin - looks brownish black. :headshake2: I wanted to move it temporarily to a 5 Gallon Tank (empty tank - has .25 ammonia (somewhat of still cycling)) and doesn't have a heater.

Do you think it'll survive? or should I just not move it at all and let it live in the established tank but get harrassed?:help:

Well yea. But you must do daily,t bi-daily changes with warm water, and add 5x the recommended dose of prime.

A suddent temp drop without acclimation would be very dnagerous along the ammonia. Rams do not do well in new tanks...you would end up having to do numerous water changes per day and monitor the temp closely as rams pretty much require warmer water...

The temperature is about 75 Degree right now.

Can you use a tank divider instead? An already-stressed fish is even less likely to fare well in a cycling tank than a normal fish IMO.

Good idea, I would do that instead.

or even a mesh breeder box that hangs on the side of the tank.

With a tank that small the light can provide enough warmth. I had a 10 gallon for years without a heater and my fish did fine. As for the water just take five gallons from the established tank and dump it in there. Pretty simple.

while adding water from the other tank will help raise the temperature slightly and help the fish acclimate easier, it will do nothing to cycle the tank.
