I hadn't fished in over 15 years until two months ago. I have a Dicks Sporting Goods rewards Mastercard, and I typically use my rewards certificates on AR15/AK47 ammo. Since Obama's election, it has been nearly impossible to find any ammo in either .223/5.56 or 7.62x39mm, so I walked over into the fishing section and remembered how fun it was fishing as a kid.
My in-laws have two pretty decent-sized ponds that were stocked when they bought the cow pasture 15 years or so ago. I have been catching bass (small or largemouth - I'm not sure, honestly), bluegill, and huge channel catfish from them for a month now. I HAVE to fish every weekend, even if it's raining. Fun stuff. Catch and release, since I think fish taste gross, for the most part.
Here's a pic of me with a medium-sized bass. There are some larger and a LOT smaller than that (down to about twice the size of my thumb). The catfish are huge and ugly (like break your pole huge), so I stay up top and try not to catch them. I think the bass in this pic is the one that I caught twice, with the second time being about an hour later. It had the same pink spot up near its dorsal fin like it had damaged its scales on a stick or something, and it had the small hole in its lip from the spoon in the pic too.
I love to fish if you couldn't tell by my name. I flyfish both fresh and salt water. The following pictures are all fish caught on a fly rod. The snapping turtle was not if you couldn't tell. My fly rod would have snapped.
one of the biggest i ever caught was a 12 pound Freshwater Drum also known as a really big pearch..also caught some big carp , catfish, suckerfish ect. from the ohio river where i live..but i have hooked some monster catfish, just never got to see them they broke my line when i was trying to real them in...sorry no pics..
Here is my 4 year old son with his first Walleye. He chose the lure, caught and reeled it in. The only thing dad did was net it. It is a $260 fish! $11 an inch to put it on the wall. My daughter couldn't be left out, so here she is with her catch of the day, a yellow perch.
