Hello everyone. I have a couple of questions regarding the use of water conditioners when doing a fishless cycle. In this article on fishless cycling http://www.tomgriffin.com/aquamag/cycle2.html It states not to use a water conditioner that sequesters ammonia such as Amquel when doing the large water change at the end of the fishless cycle. It mentions to use a simple water conditioner that removes chlorine/chloramine. What is a good product available that does this. Products such as Prime, Ammo Lock 2 detoxify ammonia. What about Aqua-Plus or Aqua Safe? These don't mention that they remove of detoxify ammonia?

Prime is OK to use during fishless cycling. Also, Kordon (maker of Amquel) claims that ammonia treated with Amquel is still available to bacteria and my experience would support that.

If you want to be safe, just cycle without using Amquel or AmmoLock and you'll do fine.
