Fishless cycling - getting nitrites and stock suggestion ?

Finally started getting nitrite in my "tank" as I do fishless cycling
I have a 3 gallon Eclipse tank .I know its very small .One of my beginners' mistake. I am planning to get a new 20 G one soon,
as for now I am planning to have 2 white cloud minnows and 1 ghost shrimp.
Any suggestions?

Somebody in the other forum added that white clouds need a lot of swimming space, is this true ? From my research they seemed to be hardy and temperature change resistant fish making them a perfect candidate for me . But if not , please can anybody suggest any other fish for my 3G FW?

To be honest about the only thing I can think of for a 3g tank would be to have it planted with a single betta.

is betta a good beginner fish ?

I'm not much of a betta person, but from what I've seen they seem reasonably tolerant. Just remember you shouldn't have plastic plants with them.
