Hello all! Not new but you don't remember me... I got a problem with my fish.... for some reason my bro bought a green terror, jack dempsey, texas cichlid, firemouth, and put them all in a 30 gallon... stupid as that was, They for some reason ALWAYS were hiding inside caves, and wouldn't even come out unless you left the room. I didn't much care... well I took em and put them in my 55 gallon, fully cycled, NO other fish in there besides them... But they STILL hide ALL the time.. been that way for a few weeks in my tanks... couple months in his... (These fish are all around the 1 inch mark, so they got the room for now...) I had this problem a while back with a blood parrot (shouldn't say that word here) and he grew out of it... Please help!

Does anything else change when you enter the room (lights, music, etc.)? Could be that the fish dislike the sudden change, especially if it's light. Othe roption--was there anyone tapping on the tank constantly? This will cause fish to hide as well. If you can view the tank from outside the room, see if they behave normally then. If not, it could be too much aggression in close confines.

My fish usually will come out if I patiently wait in front of the tank, very quiet and still. Other options--try feeding very small amounts each time you approach the tank, then sitting and watching. The food should entice them out, and they'll get used to you being there. Of course, this means you'll need to watch the water quality, to be sure that your not feeding so much that it causes an ammonia spike.

WB!

They have progressively gotten braver. No changes in lighting or anything.. No one tapped on the glass... but I have tried the feeding while I am there and not moving, and that seems to be working somewhat... I am guessing that it is just a matter of time before they fully trust me, just doesn't happen too often to me..
