Flame angels

Germanman

My fish are my babies
Working in the trade i have heard so many opinions on how reef safe they are but id like any input form you guys out there about keeping one in my reef tank. i do want to replace the clam that died in the sea apple crash and i have soft corals that i heard they will nip. ive sold ones that did and didnt. any recommendations?

i think people are afraid to put in their opinion in case they are wrong. lol.. this is because exactly what you found out about flames is true, they are hit or miss when it comes to eating corals. i do not have one for fear of this, but i know a lot of people that do. some nip, some dont

make sure to try different types of corals, like softs, sps, lps, zoos, clams (well.. not a coral... but some will pick at it), ect

Update?

I have been thinking of getting one of these because of the vibrant color, but not sure of the safety.

I'm getting one as soon as my LFS gets one in.

From this site: http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=1644&N=0

it says, The Flame Angelfish is prone to nip at stony and soft corals (sessile invertebrates) and clam mantles.

Like someone said above, I believe it is hit or miss. Most SW Angels are supposedly risky to put in with corals...but I'm sure there are stories here and there where some just don't touch them.
