I've owned 5 of those gold coloured honey gouramis and have not had much luck getting them to grow to full size. Only one made it to the adult size of 2 inches, the other 4 staying right around one inch in length.
I bought them from a couple of sources.
Any ideas why they don't grow? Tankmates are small and peacefull, water parameters are excellent. I'm also not clear if these guys are the same species as honey gouramis. I read conficting information on this.

I believe that females grow bigger than males or vice versa...

I'm pretty sure they're a kind of dwarf gourami. Don't quote me on it, though. If they are, they certainly look different than most dwarves, and so maybe that much inbreeding would stunt their growth occasionally?

Don't listen to UN. I hear he's a real dumbass :grinyes:

Yeah, I'm thinking inbreeding in getting that color morph. And, they have never interacted with my true Honey gouramis, other than the occasional chasing, so I wonder if they are really the same species.
Neat little fish though. I have always enjoyed their curiosity and peacefull demeaner.

Yes I've has them before- beautiful fish. They don't get that big at all... mine avg 2-3". There's nothing to worry about I'm sure they're happy and healthy under your care.

:evil_lol:

Honey Gourami's are different then dwarf gourami's. I believe that the flame ones are color morphs of honey's based on the ones I've seen at petco and petsmart. There are a few different species called honey gourami, but the real one is colisa chuna, and look like this:

Dwarf Gourami's are colisa lalia and look like this but with different colors.

Honey Gourami's are also smaller than Dwarf Gourami's.

I believe colisa is outdated, trichogaster chuna is the correct name. Females are larger & not yellow. There is a also a flame variant for trichogaster chuna.

MIne are the fish shown uisername's pic. Mine just don't get much bigger that about an inch, with the one exception. I'm chalking it up to hormones/ inbreeding. Their colors sure are nice, though. really rich yellow/gold with red highlights in the rear. It looks like they will never reach sexual maturity but otherwise great little fish.

slowly but surely mine is growing just make sure hes getting enough to eat it can be a pain to get them to start eating but once they do def start growing.
