Floating Snails??

Spark.

I've had snails for a while and just recently one has had the tendancy to float. He's kind of hanging out of his shell and his little trapdoor thing isn't completley closed. I'm not sure whether he's sick or has just got a new trick. Help?

well... it is completely normal for snails to float around-- they do it all the time (depending on the individual snail).. not sure why but its healthy

BUT... since he is hanging out of his shell.. you might wanna pick him up and do the "sniff test" to make sure he isnt dead...

I would say it is normal for them to do this, and one of my apples does the same as yours and is slightly out of his shell. He eats fine and everything, and he seems very healthy.

Is he still behaviong pretty normal? If so i wouldnt worry about it :)

If its not normal for your snail, I would be concerned even though its not abnormal snail behavior. How long have you had it? What are your parameters (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate)? Is it eating? Is everything else in the tank acting well? Water changes can never hurt.

Mine float upsidedown occasionally, with their little mouths moving. It usually happens when I've forgotten to feed, or there isn't enough to go around. Btw, mine are pond snails. My ramshorns don't seem to do this.

My Bladders and Rams will do this but usually when I'm getting close to a water change it is agood indicator that I may need to do a water change a day or 2 earlier than planned.

Well he tends to reattach himself back to the tank every now and then but as soon as he is disturbed, he floats again. but none of the snails have been acting normal since they went back in. They've also recently dealt with new rocks and plants and since then the water hasn't been clear so i've been changing it reguarly. All the snails just sit at the top of the water on the glass with their shells just breaking the surface, every now and then they will move around but not much. I've been making them jelly too and only one of them comes down to eat it.
I havent been testing. I'm thinking I will get a kit on Monday.
