Just a thought- what size bottle was the actual cap from? I buy mine in 4 liter bottles and the caps hold 15mL unlike the smaller bottles whose caps hold 5 mL.

I have the 2 liter bottle also. On the bottom of the directions in bold print, it says do not overdose. Right before this in the last sentence of the diredtion it says,"Note" The 2 & 4 L container's cap is 15 mL. you should have only used 2-3 capfuls for a 55g tank.
