Flow manifold housing missing/Emperor 400

HELP!
I have accidentally thrown away the flow manifold housing in my Marineland Emperor 400 filter.

• Is it now garbage?
• Can I alter it in a diy manner to still draw in water if I seal the area in some way with a hose extension into the water?
• It's only being used to pull water into a runoff for my small pond so all the other stuff isn't really necessary.

ANY INFO IS TRULY APPRECIATED EVEN IF YOU SAY TOSS IT OUT.
