Hi there I currently have a young flower horn that I got at the LFS, and he is in my 55. I know that dither fish can help to make the fish feel more at home in the tank, and was wondering what would be some good ones for this fish. So far any fish I put in there he attacks. Thanks for the help.

I'm not sure there is a dither fish for flower horns. Everyone I've talked to says to keep them seperate from others, even their own kind. Unless you have a breeding pair.

I'm about to get rid of my flower horn. I'm having the same problem you are. I bought him when he was about 2" long, and now he's about 6". But he's always hiding. He won't even eat when the lights are on. I've been patient for so long, but I'm ready to trade him in for something, anything else!

Good luck with yours.

thanks man, I really do not think there is much i can put with him. But I think that as he grows he will be more bold, he really only freaks out in the morning, and when there is too many people in the room...

Stick with yours though, you never know if it will get more aggressive and bold in the future..

I bought some silver dollars as dither fish but they hide themselves. So then I bought 4 giant danios which are fast and are always swimming around. I would try the danios if I were you they really keep my tank looking alive but it isn't a guarantee your fish will now be outgoing. My JD still hides a lot but he goes through phases where he'll swim up to me when I get home looking for food and then he has phases where he hides when I walk into the room. Well anyway, try that and if that doesn't work trade him for an oscar.

So what you really need is some good fast target fish. Not much is going to last with him and you will need to get a much larger tank when it gets larger. FH or Trimacs wich they are breed from are usually a tank by themselves.

If you going to trade your trimac in get a midas....they will attack the glass once they get a little larger, and will even attack you when you clean the tank. You will also need a large tank for just one of these fish.

FHs are a lot like trimac, predatory, they stalk their prey before they eat it, that is why they hide a lot and dont come out much. Try the Giant danios, but if they dont work, then i dont know much else that can stand up to the abuse that a FH can deliver, except maybe a pacu, but im pretty sure you dont want pacus, unlesss you have a pond.
