Flower pot question

Oh, thank goodness. I thought this was going to be a Flower HORN thread, and that there would be bloodshed.

BTW, NickH is right, of course. Easier access and egress makes for more comfortable fish and less aggression.

Go to your local hardware store and purchase round carbide 8" long blade that fits in a hacksaw handle. I have some made by Stanley and they work great. If you use a regular hacksaw blade and only twist it a little bit, the pot will shatter in different directions. With the round carbide blade you can cut any shape you want.

I do it a cheaper way, place the pot on the floor on a towel (right-side-up) and use a hammer and flat-headed screwdriver to knock out the bottom. Start in the centre of the pot and work your way outwards. Don't go too fast or you'll smash it and have to start over. You can get pretty clean cuts/breaks once you get the feel for it.

I don't understand this whole hole deal though, would it be ok to put it in without chipping out the hole first because I already have and then was told about the hole thing, I don't see the point of it considering the huge opening already in the front, you would think they'd be more secure without the extra hole on top of the pot, one less place for an intruder to enter, the convicts aren't even claiming this as territory yet, is this because they haven't paired up or is this because they don't like the area

I'm sorry that I didn't ask what species of fish you were going to use the flowerpot for. I work with Apistogramma's that only reach about 3" max. I use 3" or 4" clay pots. Convicts will breed even without a flowerpot but may lay eggs in a very large pot placed on it's side. I haven't had Convicts for many years now but if I remember correctly, mine just laid them out in the open anyway.
