Literally extorting beliefs,i love the nice intense red and the spots, beautiful,i don't believe in luck though, people get addicted even if they don't believe in the luck thingy like my ex neighbour.I can make BIG bucks if i sell flowerhorns to lfs and superstious people.
900 is fuc_in stupid. I got one for 5.99 at my lfs(3"). Ive never seen them in my area for more than $10, but Ive seen them on aquabid for $1k...thats just ridiculous.
especialy my male--well he acts liek he likes me until i mess with the tank
he kills any and everything i put near his tank
he is about 6.5" now and
he is more aggressive then my 12' midas
I haven't seen anything quit like that before
he does spook sometimes
when i travel and haven't seen him ina while he will run from me when i walk in
but I just tap the glass and he gets pissedoff and charges me
absolutely beautiful colors too
lots of metalics, great finnage long extending past the tail
both of them
My female is a real beauty also
I am getting a digi cam soon and will be dumping some good fish picks on you---
I can almost guarantee that the cheap flowerhorns you get won't be anything NEAR as colourful as the more pricey ones. They, like discus, are line bred to bring out specific traits. Yes, they are hybrids as well. They have basically replaced amphilophus trimaculatus in the pet trade, which is a real shame as trimacs are beautiful fish which IMO don't need any modifications.
Flowerhorns get big (15 inches0 and fast. They are hyper aggressive, and typically need a tank of 75g+ to themselves. Anything less and they will get deformed fins and possibly spinal curvature.
yep. i agree with that. i didn't know about Trimacs until i joined this forum.
i mean not many cichlids are found here. especially those african lake types.
and yes, i do find the colors on the LH to be very nice. just that i find their face looks ugly in comparison to other cichlids. but again, that's just my point of view.
Even though I don't own one, I've seen many Firehorn in NY and Philly Chinatown LFSs. Because they are hybrid, there are many color varieity but the most common one I've seen is the Pearl Firehorn as shown in the link. Because of their super aggressive nature, they will injured one another and are prone to bacterial infection and so they are best kept singly. In the LFSs I saw them, they are placed in individual dividers except for the 1-2 inch juveniles. Firehorn is a pet fish that won't tolerate a tank mate but will interact strongly with the owner. The best size to buy them is when they are 4 to 6 inch size already showing adult color. Mattimeo is right. It looks like hybrid Firehorn will replace pure breed Trimac, just like hybrid discus have replaced wild discus.
if a LH fish looks like the one in the attachment (over in Malaysia) it will be regarded as average/low quality LHs. maybe around 250 USD at 1ft long. but that's just my estimation, one of my colleagues give a better estimation.
