Hi

I have had this filter now for several months which i bought second hand. I have had several problems with it since i got it. I started to hear an annoying rattling sound. I noticed that one of the clips on the impeller cap had been broken off so i desided to get another one.

This solved the problem, but now i have a really loud humming noise. I can accept you will get some noise from the electrical part, but this is louder than normal. I have had to wrap a towel around the top to try and reduce the noise.

I have tried taking some of the media out and tried as many things as possible. Allthough i havent had alot of experience with these filters but i have noticed the magnetic impeller blade turns around 3/4 of the way around when you move it with your finger. Is this normal or has something broken. If i need a new one of these how much are they?

If anyone has any advise or can help me, then would be great to hear.
regards
Darren

I had problems with my fluval 405 also. Similarly to you one of those tabs broke off to my impeller housing cap & I had to order another too. I had problems with mine leaking often everytime I'd take the lid off to clean it out, and put it back together and turn it on, it'd always leak. I bought a new rubber gasket ring that goes around the lid and that solved that problem. If you think its your impeller blade try replacing it. I wont know if its supposed to turn like yours turns until I take it apart again and wont be volunteering to do that unless i have to lol, sorry.

I've found all my replacement parts online at ebay for fairly decent prices. Certainly beats paying out another $200+ for a new canister filter though!
