i've been lookin through old threads that have mentioned Fluval 403's...and i know they an older model...i even read someone calling it acient...

so my question is, are these filters any good still?? im looking to have a 108 gallon tank, with just ONE red snakehead in it...only one fish....and i was wondering if two two of thes OLD fluval 403's will do an adequate job in filtering the water?

any tips would be great
thanks!

Nick

With only one fish I dont think you need that much, but I have heard the 03 models have some issues with them and the 04 series has been much better. I had a 90 gallon with 1 oscar and 1 pike cichlid and feed them live fish 2-3x a week only running a hot magnum 250 and a fluidized bed bio filter and never, ever were there any readings ever readable. Water change 1x week @ 25%.

in a nutshell, yes, they would do the job if your on a tight budget, but there are better options out there if you don't mind spending the extra cash.

lee mentioned i dont even need two of them cuz i only have the one fish in there

so using one 403 would probably do the job?
excellent..thats all i needed to know

Thanks for your imput guys =0)

just because you only have one fish, doesn't mean you only need one filter. snakeheads are messy fish as far as i know, and will emit copious amounts of ammonia and other types of waste.
for large fish, it's always better to over filter, than to just cover it, because theres always the possibility of the fish reguritating a meal, feeding a little bit too much, the fish having a poop fest e.t.c. which would rapidly overload the filter.
