Hi!
I'm retrofitting the small canopy of my Fluval Edge aquarium with my very own LED lights. I'm ordering the materials used for this project from an online store:
http://www.rapidled.com/servlet/StoreFront
Anyways, what Ive been curious about is whether it'd be a good idea to include both cool white (with 5000-8,300K color temperature) AND
warm white (with 2600K-3700K color temperature) in the setup, or to just go with the cool white? Would the 2600K-3700K color temperature help algae grow more than my plants and is this tempature range essential? If I included the warm white CREEs I'd probably only use 2 of them together with 4 cool white.
Because of their high lumen output (430 @ 350mA) I was also wondering if I should use these Cree MC-E Cool White LEDs since my space is limited. The other option would be to go with the less expensive Cree XP-G R5 Cool White 3W LEDs (Min. lumens 139 @ 350mA).
I am working with a limited space within the fluval edge hood and I think I'll be using 6 Leds in total screwed onto an aluminum heat sink and hooked up to a Mean Well ELM-60-48-P dimmable driver. I may also add a fan to back of the hood, given that I can cram it in.
I want to add some dwarf baby tears (Hemianthus callitrichoides) into the aquarium directly under the lights and would like some opinions as to whether they would be getting enough light? I'll using putting willow moss (Vesicularia ferriei), fissidens fontanus, and flame moss (Taxiphyllum sp.) for the more shaded spots of the aquarium.
Rather than Co2 I intend to use Seachem Fourish Excel and as the substrate, I am looking for Fourite Black Sand.
It's going to be a tank for yellow shrimp.
Thank you for reading my thread! Once I decide on the specific models of LEDs I want I'll order them and update the thred with pictures when I begin work on this project!
