Hi there I was wondering what caniter filter would work best for my 200 gallon tank.. I was told today by people to buy the Fluval FX5 becuase it is 400 gallons..

What one would you guys say i should buy for my 200 gallon??? I'm new to these things too so i don't know much about them...

i'd do two filters, not just one. that way if one konks out on you you're not left with a giant unfiltered fish bowl.

your choice of filter depends on what your stocking is and what your maintenance schedule is like. i personally like to have at least double the filtration rating for the tank size at the minimum, and most of the time my tanks have even more than that. for example, my near jungle planted 55 has an Aquaclear 110 and a dual output penguin 360 (i think?) hob. so basically the filtration is over 3 times the tank size.

the FX5 is a pricey filter, but a good one, so you might want to go with one of those and a large hob (like the Aquaclear 110) or another canister that is rated not much lower than the FX5.

so then all ya have to do is go out and clear your wallet for the fx5, hahahaha!
