hey ac, im going to start up a 40g tank and i was planning on getting the fluval stratum substrate thats made for shrimps. i was wondering would kuhlies do fine in that substrate? do you think they will like it? i want to get that substrate cause ive read it makes your plants grow nice and its good for their roots. i also want to get some bee shrimp in the future, i plan on just getting the tank heavily planted first. i got the lighting already, and stock would be: kuhlies, otos, amano shrimp, cherry shrimp, and some tetras, ill have a ehiem canister filter 2213 too. the substrate says it makes your water a neutral to mildly acidic pH. will tetras, otos, and kuhlies be fine with that? water changes would be 15% every other day. what are your thoughts?

I guess the fluval stuff is kinda soft not rough? Should be ok for Kuhli's then. I've kept Kuhli's in high and low ph tanks before with out any problems.

Mine are all on pfs so they can borrow and they love that. I wouldnt try to put them in anything they couldnt dig down into. I had 2 baby kuhlis in a planted tank with eco-complete, and both died in 3 days, so I know thats no good for them.

Thanks for the replies. I currently have my kuhlies in Eco complete, I just got some baby kuhlies and they are doing fine so far, Jon you got me a little worried now about my baby kuhlies. Instead of the fluval substrate I was also looking at adg aqua soil. I was thinking if I got a bag of that for the plants ill mix it with my already eco complete and then adding some sand for the top layer from a lfs.
