hi,

are flying fox easy to care for?
or are they sensitive to good water quality...

how about siamese algae eaters?

also will they eat plants?

the search function doesn't seem to be working:)

what do you need them for? sae's are the better way to go if you want them to get rid of algae. both are fairly easy to care for and my sae's don't touch my plants.

thanks:) i guess i just boight it to take care of algae on the tanks glass:) if there's any.,.. but it will get some blooodworms and hikari algae wafers:)

I hate to dissapoint, but SAEs aren't like sucker-mouthed catfish (plecos and the like) - they're not really capable of scrubbing the glass clean of algae. They're great at nibbling hair algae off plant leaves, and bits of green algae etc. off driftwood, but (mine at least) they're not too keen on glass.

Totally agree, the sae's are not that good at cleaning glass. I have both the flying fox and sae and both of them don't really bother the plants except they chase each other around sometimes :D

The flying fox will spend some time seeming to nibble on the algae on rocks and glass and plants. But in reality they are trying to eat the little organisms that live in the algae. So you don't see much if any algae reduction. They are easy to care for but are very territorial and will fight each other and other fish that look like them. SAE's are the only fish in that group that can tolerate and enjoy company.

There is also flase SAE out there.

Algae is best dealt with by reducing its ability to take hold in your tank. All tanks get a little algae. Never get a fish to deal with a problem, get a fish because it is a nice fish and you want it in your tank and can take care of it. All algae eating fish need supplimental food to survive anyway. And if they eat any amount of plant life it is by accident.
